Abstract

MORENO FALCON, Mónica  and  CASTILLO RAMIREZ, Daniel. The Use of Photogrammetry for the Digitalization of Broadsheet Cartographic Documents: The Experience of the Planoteca de la Junta de Adelanto de Arica (PJAA), Cartography Room of Junta de Adelanto, Arica), Chile. Intervención (Méx. DF) [online]. 2018, vol.9, n.17, pp.80-90. ISSN 2007-249X.

This REPORT reflects on the importance of valuing the legibility, scale, proportion and other defining attributes of a cartographic document in the framework of digitalization processes for heritage preservation purposes. Based on this, a brief analysis is carried out on the main problems posed by the digitalization of documentary collections, particularly concerning cartography, through the review of the experience achieved in Planoteca de la Junta de Adelanto de Arica (PJAA, Cartography Room of Junta de Adelanto de Arica), Chile. Consequently, the development of a methodology, which is respectful of the value of original use -geometrical- of this type of documents, is highlighted. Finally, we present the results obtained with the use of digital photogrammetry in the creation of duplicates of deteriorated broadsheet plans in the PJAA, Chile.

Keywords : digitalization; broadsheet; cartography; photogrammetry; decision-making; Chile.
