RODRIGUEZ ALCALA, Antonio. Gnomonic Heritage of Mexico: Solar Quadrants from the State of Yucatán's Colonial Era. Intervención (Méx. DF) [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.10, pp.67-77. ISSN 2007-249X.
Gnomonic, the art of calculation, design and construction of sundials has existed among various cultures of the world from the earliest of times. In Mexico, observation of celestial bodies dates back to Mesoamerican times. With the arrival of European civilisation many sundials were produced, of which many can be found up to the present, although some are in precarious state while others got lost. This REPORT identifies and studies the presence of a series of sundials from the State of Yucatán, Mexico, located in religious buildings from the Colonial Era: a group of seventeen solar quadrants and a calendaric wheel have been registered as a first step towards their subsequent recovery process.
