PEREVOCHTCHIKOVA, María; APONTE HERNANDEZ, Nidya; ZAMUDIO-SANTOS, Verhonica  y  SANDOVAL-ROMERO, Gabriel Eduardo. Community Participatory Monitoring of Water Quality: Case Ajusco, Mexico. Tecnol. cienc. agua [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.6, pp.5-23. ISSN 2007-2422.

In this work, we present the experience of implementing of Community Participatory Monitoring scheme (CPM) of water quality in a forest community, located on the periphery of Mexico City. This scheme has driven under the assumption that by using the simple techniques of observation of water resources its can encourage community participation in the process of generation and dissemination of knowledge to promote decision making inside and outside community. The methodology included training in the CPM of water quality, the implementation of monitoring in 2015, the analysis of the results, and the complement of the information for laboratory samples and historical data for the pre-determined sites in the training workshop. The results show good physical-chemical water quality in the three springs with preoccupation by fecal bacteria concentrations that exceed the Official Mexican Norms in one of the sites. At the end, we reflect about the advances and the limitations of CPM and the continuation of monitoring on medium and long term.
