Abstract

SANCHEZ-ORTIZ, Eduardo. The relative availability of water as an indicator in the San Pedro River basin, Mexico. Tecnol. cienc. agua [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.5, pp.199-206. ISSN 2007-2422.

Assessing the availability of water in a basin solely by obtaining the volume available is not sufficient to establish management criteria to aid in solving overexploitation. The use of indicators such as relative availability makes it possible to generate sensitivity measurements for projected balances, in order to assess trends and identify causes. This work describes an exercise using these criteria for the San Pedro River Basin in Hydrologic Region 11 in Mexico, in which it was possible to identify changes in the conditions of the sub-basins, including the monthly surface water balance and 10 and 20 year projections.

Keywords : availability; relative water availability; hydrological balance; basins; San Pedro River; Hydrologic Region 11; Mexican Official Standard; NOM-011-CONAGUA-2000.
