Resumen

ALEGRET-BRENA, Evio  y  MARTINEZ-GONZALEZ, Yoel. An integrated study of the fan spillway. Tecnol. cienc. agua [online]. 2010, vol.1, n.2, pp.37-57. ISSN 2007-2422.

Laboratory research results are presented for the determination of nondimensional coordinates of the fan spillway crest cross section. Non-dimensional coordinates of ascending and descending branches of the nappe were obtained to show the nondimensional relationships associated with the weir height-weir total head ratio as well as the variation of parameters involved. These coordinates were compared with those given by Creager et al. (1945) and USBR (1948). In order to find out the required height of the spillway fan to prevent submergence phenomena under different working conditions, research work was conducted as a follow-up of the above-mentioned ones, using the same installation and making reference to former works by Alegret et al. (from 1968 to 1979). More recently, depth variation through the curved-in-plan transition structure was studied for different bottom slopes by Alegret and Guerra (2004). These studies led to the development of design equations to find the adequate height of transition side walls and Rolón (2007) obtained the discharge coefficient when the upstream height of the weir is zero.
