Abstract
LUGO ARELLANO, Mariana. Divergent Paternities in Leon, Guanajuato: The Paternal Experience of Young Undergraduate Males. Trayectorias. Rev. de cienc. soc. de la Univ. Autónoma de Nuevo León [online]. 2017, vol.19, n.45, pp.77-100. ISSN 2007-1205.
This article analyzes the experience of young undergraduate parents. Qualitative research is presented where 10 semi-structured interviews were conducted to young men between 19 and 29 years old, who are fathers of at least one child and enrolled in a higher education program in the city of Leon, Guanajuato. It is argued that some traditional notions of fatherhood are interacting with new ways of experiencing it in the sense that young fathers are looking for care and emotional relationships with their children. Nevertheless, they are facing several factors that affect their parental experience: difficulties finding a way to balance life-work-school, living in different residence than their children, and the kind of relationship that they have with the mother and other family members.
