Resumen

ESTRADA CUTINO, Osmaida et al. In vitro effect of furan acetamide bromide on Salmonella enterica isolates from chickens. Rev. mex. de cienc. pecuarias [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.3, pp.331-340. ISSN 2448-6698.

Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica is one of the most interesting bacteria because of its pathogenic effect on animals. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the in vitro effect of furan acetamide bromide (FAB) on avian Salmonella enterica. FAB was obtained from the Centro de Bioactivos Químicos of the Universidad Central de las Villas, Cuba. The antimicrobial activity of the product against Salmonella enterica isolates was determined by the broth macrodilution method, according to the Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS), document M7-A2. The minimum lethal concentration was determined by NCCLS, document M26-A, 1999. The biochemical and serological tests confirmed the presence of Salmonella gallinarum in 100 % of the samples. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of FAB were 12.5 μg/ml for Salmonella gallinarum and American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) of E. coli. It is concluded that MIC and MBC of Salmonella enterica against in vitro effect of furan acetamide bromide was 12.5 μg/ml, demonstrating the antimicrobial activity of the product.
