CRUZ RUBIO, Blanca Azucena et al. Comparative chemical-morphological analysis of accessions of Jatropha curcas L. from the state of Veracruz. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.3, pp.589-601. ISSN 2007-0934.

Biodiesel produced from Jatropha curcas is technically feasible, although there is little national experience. It is unknown whether there is variation in chemical content of the seeds depending on the site of growth (genotype-environment interaction). Therefore, the objective of this study was to compare variation in morphological characteristics and variations in oil content, protein, phorbol esters, acidity index, oleic acid and saponification index, in J. curcas seed collected at different agro-ecological zones from the state of Veracruz and its replica established in the Germplasm Bank (BG) from Campus Veracruz. The seeds were collected in August 2013. For chemical analysis, techniques approved by the AOAC were used. For statistical analysis, the Statistic program, version 7 and Excel 2010 were used. A significant correlation (r≤ 1) between morphological variables of seeds, particularly between length and weight (R≤ 0.75) was found; the lowest correlation was between width and length (p≤ 0.36). Correlation analysis between oil content and seed weight was not significant (p≤ 0.38). The average oil in field and BG was 38.5 ± 5.8, oleic acid 36±4.2, saponification index 194 ± 1.7, acidity index 7.10±.8, protein 24.3 ± 3.7, phorbol esters 0.34±1.04. It was concluded that there were significant differences for the variable phorbol esters in field conditions and BG, being higher the concentrations in seeds from field.

Palavras-chave : agro-ecological zones; phorbol esters; toxic and non-toxic.
