GIL GIL, Hernán; MARTINEZ RUEDA, Carlos Gustavo  e  ESTRADA CAMPUZANO, Gaspar. Impact of tillage systems and nitrogen doses on yield and nutritional quality of forage oats. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.6, pp.951-964. ISSN 2007-0934.

In the Valley of Toluca, few efforts have been made to assess the practices used in conservation agriculture, such as the use of permanent beds. Based on the above, the effect of no-till farming with stubble (SDCR) and without stubble (SDSR) and conventional seeding without stubble (SC) under two doses of N (60 and 100 kg N ha-1) on yield and nutritional quality of four varieties of forage oats (Avemex, Obsidiana, Karma and Turquesa) were evaluated. The experiment was conducted in Toluca, Mexico during the winter-spring cycle of 2009-2010 under a subdivided strip plot design with three replications. Tillage systems and fertilization directly influenced on forage yield. With SC and SDSR, maximum forage yields obtained (14.17 and 11.81 t ha-1, respectively) and dry matter (6.37 and 6.04 t ha-1, respectively). By increasing the dose of N, green fodder yield increased 42% and dry matter 48%. The varieties showed little variation for yield and nutritional quality of forage, but responded differently to changes in tillage system and N application. Avemex showed the best average behavior across the three tillage systems, while Turquoise showed low adaptation to no-till farming systems. The increase in the dose of N resulted in a higher concentration of protein and fiber, thus improving their nutritional quality.
