CAMPOS-PULIDO, Rosa et al. Physicochemical characterization of a tilapia brackish effluent in aquaponics. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.spe5, pp.939-950. ISSN 2007-0934.
The objectives of the study were; to characterize physicochemically a tilapia brackish effluent in commercial production and evaluate the growth of three types of herbaceous plants in aquaponic. The experimental design was completely randomized. The ranges found in the parameters were: water temperature (20-31.5 °C), pH (5.7-7.59), oxygen (4-5.3 mg L-1), electrical conductivity (3.1-8.57 dS m-1), hydrogen (0.60-2.60 meq L-1), chlorides (27-85.7 Meq L-1), sulfates (2.29-4.16 meq L-1), ammonia (2-50 mg L-1), nitrites (0.035-1.84 mg L-1), nitrate (0.1024.60 mg L-1), calcium (1.02-14.29 meq L-1), magnesium (3.52-16.17 meq L-1), potassium (0.15-11.93 meq L-1), total hardness (280.08-1398.7 mg L-1), total dissolved solids (2109.30-5519.00 mg L-1), sodium absorption ratio (9.62-32.09 meq L-1). Total and fecal coliforms were within the limits indicated in the Mexican Standard NOM-001-ECOL-1996. In aquaponic, the species Petroselinum purpuratus not resist effluent conditions, whereas, Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour.) Spreng, has a lower height compared to traditional planting. In contrast both traditional planting aquaponic as Mentha X verticillata L. good growth observed.
