In Mexico and the world, entrepreneurship is a concept that has been at the center of the discussion as an element that contributes to generate development. This leads to review empirically models that attempt to describe the dynamics of entrepreneurship in specific regions and its possible explanatory factors. The objective of this research was to analyze the factors behind entrepreneurship in small agricultural entrepreneurs in the Valley of Puebla, Mexico. The data used were obtained in 2011 by a structured interview, applied to a statistical sample. To assess the relationship between entrepreneurs and their determinants, by using principal components analysis and linear regression based on variables related to taking risk and innovative behavior, also related with the explanation of this aspect, it was it was constructed an entrepreneurship index. The mean of this index was 0.33, with a standard deviation of 0.05. In entrepreneurship explaining the variables statistically significant at 95% confidence, were: the level of education, number of years in productive activity, confidence in government institutions and relational capital. The latter can be increased by appropriate public policies.
