Resumen

GONZALEZ GONZALEZ, Miguel; ZAMORA DIAZ, Mauro; HUERTA ZURITA, Ramón  y  SOLANO HERNANDEZ, Salomón. Efficiency of three fungicides to control the leaf rust in malting barley. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.8, pp.1237-1250. ISSN 2007-0934.

Barley is the best alternative crop in rainfed areas of the high valleys of the central plateau of Mexico; it has a shorter cycle than other cereals, able to produce during the frost-free period in the region, which is sometimes not possible with species such as maize and wheat. One of the main problems faced by the barley crop is the presence of diseases such as leaf rust (Puccinia hordei Otth.), observed in the variety Esmeralda in recent agricultural cycles in the Central Highlands of Mexico. This situation has led the National Research Institute for Forestry, Agriculture and Livestock to generate technical recommendations for disease control: using tolerant varieties and foliar application of fungicides. With the aim of determining the most appropriate dose and allowing the product to have proper control of the leaf rust in malting barley evaluated in three experiments the efficiency offungicides Epoxiconazole 125 SC, Tebuconazole 250 EW and Pointer 250 SC. The results indicated that, the fungicides Epoxiconazole 125 SC and Tebuconazole 250 EW can have a good control of the disease at doses of500 and 450 mL ha-1 respectively.
