GALINDO-GARCIA, Dante Vladimir et al. Sun-poinsettia production in Morelos, México. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.4, pp.751-763. ISSN 2007-0934.

Morelos State is one ofthe leading producers of ornamental plants in the country; it has favorable conditions for the production of different crops. Sun-poinsettia is an ornamental and traditional shrub ofgreat economic and social importance in the city of Cuernavaca. Conventionally produced in nurseries in the open-sky for more than thirty years. The most productive varieties are red bracts: 'Valencia', followed by 'Superior' and 'Rehilete', requiring little investment in infrastructure and inputs, the plant presents some phytosanitary problems, with strong demand in the domestic market and has now reached a greenhouse-poinsettia-like price. Written information aboutthe agronomic management of sun-poinsettiais insufficient, so there was a field researchto the producers of this crop inthe northern city of Cuernavaca, by applying a survey to obtain information related to the production and marketing aspects including: substrates, seedlings, propagation, rooting, fertilizer, growth regulators, pests, diseases, costs, quality, technology, organization and market, expressed in percentages. The results were quite useful, relevant information to improve quality and reduce technical problems in the production of this crop. Sun-poinsettia is a plant genetic resource with potential for research, marketing and future breeding programs.
