ALMAGUER VARGAS, Gustavo; AYALA GARAY, Alma Velia; SCHWENTESIUS RINDERMANN, Rita  e  SANGERMAN-JARQUIN, Dora Ma.. Vegetables profitability in México City, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.4, pp.643-654. ISSN 2007-0934.

In order to analyze the profitability, the adoption rate of innovations and causal attribution of the reluctance to adopt innovations and collective work of growers of broccoli and celery, which are representative crops of vegetables in México City a study, was performed. By making a comparison of the profitability of the production between México and the United States of América it can be seen that, Mexican growers make a much lower profit than the U.S., even though, the production costs are lower, due to a low yield in the Federal District. The rate of adoption of innovations (INAI) of the farmers from the Federal District was 15%, which is considered quite low. This is the main reason for low yield and reduced profitability. Both, the producers and officials said that the mainreason for not adopt innovations and not working as a group, is primarily due to mistrust, and second is the ignorance and the third is the lack of time.

Palavras-chave : adoption; causal attribution; production costs; innovations.
