Currently, Chiapas, Nayarit, Oaxaca and Veracruz are the main producers states of this commercial grain type, in which 256 099 hectares were sowed during 2008, mainly in autumn-winter with residual humidity that corresponds to 15.7% of sowed surface in the country. In Veracruz in that year 42 593 hectares of bean were sowed whose average yield was of 730 kilograms per hectare.
