SANCHEZ-PEREZ, Ma. Isabel et al. Physical-chemical changes during maize seed germination. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2010, vol.1, n.1, pp.89-93. ISSN 2007-0934.
The aim of this research was to determine the physical-chemical changes that occur in the medium during the germination of maize seed (Zea mays L.) in vitro. Ten seeds of the hybrid 83G66 were incubated to germination in petri dishes with 9 mL of deionized sterile water. During germination pH changes, indolacetic acid, anthranilic acid, kinetin, giberelic acid and benciladenine content were determined in the solution by liquid high-resolution chromatography. During germination the pH of the medium was significantly reduced from 6.9 to 4.8. Tryptophan and small quantities of indolacetic acid, anthranilic acid, kinetin, giberelic acid and benciladenine were detected. The presence of the compounds detected might favor early maize growth.
