Abstract

Introduction:

This work characterizes the organizational conditions of social capital among researchers belonging to a research community and studies the relationship with their levels of scientific-technological productivity, demonstrating for certain dimensions and variables their association and dependence, which can provide elements to increase their productivity through science communication processes.

Method:

A transverse-causal design was used, through a random probabilistic sampling applied to a Mexican research center, using interval scales designed for that purpose, subjecting it to a correlation and regression analysis. The study was carried out under a quantitative paradigmatic approach and it was of a non-experimental nature.

Results:

It characterizes the social capital and the scientific and technological production according to the following dimensions: psychosocial (trust, cooperation and collaboration, organizational normativity, and associativity and social networks) and structural (quantity and quality in interpersonal relations of a labor nature). It presents an analysis of global scientific-technological production by researcher and of association and dependence between social capital and scientific-technological productivity, considering an annual observation period.

Conclusion:

The study concludes that: a) research communities and individuals with high levels of social capital can maintain high levels of scientific-technological productivity, not in a general way, but in certain products; specifically b) the psychosocial dimension of social capital is an important factor to raise productivity in the area of human resources training (doctoral theses and research stays); and c) structural social capital is associated and influences the level of productivity in the area of scientific publications.
