Resumen

FONG REYNOSO, Carlos; FLORES VALENZUELA, Karina Edith  y  CARDOZA CAMPOS, Luz Melina. Resource based-theory: a bibliometric analysis. Nova scientia [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.19, pp.411-440. ISSN 2007-0705.  https://doi.org/10.21640/ns.v9i19.739.

The Resources and Capabilities Theory (RCT) is one of the main theoretical models that guide the research conducted in Strategic Management, and its use is growing. This trend, which began in the eighties of the last century, by various factors, among which acceptance is explained within the academic community associated with strategic management, economic arguments used in this approach to explain the behavior and performance of the company, and in particular mechanisms for building and maintaining competitive advantage. The RCT considers that the provision of a competitive advantage says that the company has reached a higher level of performance than its competitors, a situation that allows you to make abnormal profits, even in the long run. In this sense, build and sustain a competitive advantage is the key to success of the company and indicates how efficiently the company uses its resources and capabilities.

Method:

In order to verify that the ideas mentioned above and in particular that what is indicated by Barney et al. (2011) is still valid and corresponds to the publications in the field, a bibliometric data analysis is performed for the period 2011-2015 (August ). The data were obtained from the Scopus database and analyzed using Excel software. This analysis identifies the main research topics that are treated in the CRT, as well as the trend that continues in its development. The method and software used is similar to that used in several bibliometric analyzes reported in the international literature (Ramos-Rodríguez and Ruíz-Navarro 2004, 2008, González-Albo and Zulueta 2007, Portugal Ferreira, Ribeiro Serra, Kramer Costa, and Almeida 2016 and Acevedo, N., Jiménez, L. and Rojas M. 2017)

Results:

The data obtained show a growing generation of empirical confirmatory test, application development and contribution of the RCT to the development of other disciplines.

Conclusion:

Strengthening and maturity of the RCT is manifested through publications identified in this analysis of bibliometric data. While the field of RCT is broad and does not allow to deepen in all its dimensions, it can be concluded that the results obtained in this study confirm that it is correct perception of the RCT as one of the most important theoretical models for research performs in strategic management.
