CERDA DUENAS, Carlos y LEETOY, Salvador. Development means peace these days: Context, sequence and validity of the Encyclical Letter Populorum Progressio. En-clav. pen [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.24, pp.1-33. ISSN 2594-1100.
This article examines the contemporary pertinence of the Encyclical Letter Populorum Progressio issued in 1967. The context and background of this Catholic document are analyzed in the light of its impact and relevance in both, the Catholic Church Social Doctrine and the global agenda for development. Particularly important is to highlight the historical influence of this document in religiously influenced social movements in Latin America, specifically the Liberation Theology. As a result, it is concluded that the arguments of this Encyclical Letter are still valid today as they were 50 years ago, prompting contemporary discussions about social justice on a diversity of international fora.
