An important assumption in the recent cognitive psychology is that the studies of how the human beings reason should take evolutionary ideas into account. The evolutionary psychology is a theoretic project that shares this assumption. In this paper, I critically examine this psychological project. After presenting some of the central hypotheses defended by evolutionary psychologists, I will explore some objections to them. My purpose, however, is not assessing criticisms of evolutionary psychology, but to show some assumptions behind the debate between evolutionary psychologists and their critics.
