MEZA HERNANDEZ, Pedro. Encrucijada política: Kant entre el liberalismo y el republicanismo. En-clav. pen [online]. 2008, vol.2, n.3, pp.65-75. ISSN 2594-1100.

For Kant, freedom is the foundation of politics. In other words, the aim of politics must be dealt with as the form of power that takes as an end the constitution of a civil, just order, which allows this freedom to be exercised by all citizens. Moreover, in Kant we find an argument that seeks to show how politics is the sphere of action that allows what is raised from the normative perspective to be created within the real framework, or from a point of view of pure practical reason. To defend this point of view, I will use the problem of the right to resistance. This problem allows us to ask the following question, in the following situation: If political power does not achieve its end rationally, do we have the right to resist political power? Kant's position is clear: absolute freedom of thought, but absolute obedience to acts. This political position only represents Kant's liberal moment. Nevertheless, another moment seems to exist in the Kantian work: the republican whose political action makes it is possible not only to resist but also to take part in the legislation that only depends on the leader, as soon as we identify this legislation as liberal. This republican moment in Kant is found in the later texts due to the enthusiasm that he shows, and from which he theorizes, after witnessing the French Revolution.
