Following a tumultuous Twentieth Century and numerous diagnoses regarding the dissolution of modernity, the project laid out by the Illustration, and the failure of the sense of emancipation of history, this paper supports Jürgen Habermas hypothesis on the "incompletion" of the goals established by the Illustration project. The paper presents Karl-Otto Apel's attempt to show philosophy's fundamental tasks and both author's proposals regarding a rational theory based on dialogic or communicative reasoning, which leads to an ethics of communication and discourse.
