Resumen

DELGADO WISE, Raúl. Reflections about the migratory issue Mexico-United States in light of Donald Trump electoral triumph. Migr. desarro [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.27, pp.167-178. ISSN 1870-7599.

This paper provides an analytical framework to explain and demystify the causes and implications of Mexican migration to the United States under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). It is argued that the migratory escalation that began in 1982 and which in a relatively short period made Mexico the leading emigrant country in the world is closely associated to the restructuring strategy followed by the large multinational corporations under the aegis of neoliberalism. Donald Trump's two campaign promises in relation to Mexican immigration and NAFTA are analyzed from this vantage point, which reveals the contradictions and challenges that both promises pose for both the Mexican economy and the United States. This in turn highlights the decline and crisis faced by us imperialism.

Palabras llave : migration; NAFTA; imperialism; Mexico-US relations; Donald Trump.
