In Mexico the King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa) is endangered species that inhabits tropical forests of the southern portions of Mexico. Recent evidence indicates that it´s populations are declining throughout much of its range in the country. A new record of this species suggests a recent biogeographic extension of the taxon. We registered a specimen of S. papa in the town of Belisario Domínguez, Uxpanapa, Veracruz, Mexico. On 27 February 2018, we observed an individual flying over an area of secondary vegetation, surrounded by livestock. This record, considered in the context of asinotropy (geographic space where it has not been registered within its potential distribution area), represents the Northern most distribution of the Uxpanapa Valley tropical forest, which delineates the modern day geographical distribution of the taxon, and may have implications in terms of conservation.
