Abstract

PEREZ-VALADEZ, Noé. Additions to the avifauna of the State of Zacatecas. Huitzil [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.2, pp.175-183. ISSN 1870-7459.

The avifauna of the State of Zacatecas has been poorly studied. The great majority of publications are more than 40 years old, and during recent years only a few studies have been published. From September 2011 to April 2015, I carried out bird surveys in the municipality of Nochistlán de Mejía, southwestern Zacatecas. Vegetation types included in the survey were: cactus-acacia-mesquite scrub, oak and pine-oak forests, tropical deciduous forest, induced grasslands, and artificial ponds. In this paper I report eight new state records, and the extension of the known geographic distribution of five bird species.

Keywords : range extensions; new records; southwestern Zacatecas; bird inventory; Nochistlán de Mejía.
