Wetlands contribute to maintain biological diversity and are critically important as resting and feeding areas for long-distance migrant waterbirds. In the State of Puebla, the reservoir "Presa Manuel Ávila Camacho" was considered in 2012 as a Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar site no. 2027) and Natural Protected Area "Valsequillo Wetland", taking into account its high abundance and diversity of birds under some protection status, including both resident and migrant species. From December 2013 to January 2015, we monthly censused water bird communities in the area. We report the presence of four migrant species which had not been previously observed in this Ramsar site. We observed two Wood ducks (Aix sponsa), the first published records not only for this site, but for the State of Puebla. Also, we recorded several Bare-throated Tiger herons (Tigrisoma mexicanum), a White Ibis (Eudocimus albus) and a Black Skimmer (Rynchops niger). The number of waterbird species observed in Valsequillo increases to 60, and to 608 the bird species for the State of Puebla.
