MORENO-CONTRERAS, Israel; ARTEAGA LUNA, Martha Cristina y ESCUDERO GONZALEZ, Eduardo. New sightings of the Red-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta canadensis) in the north of the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.2, pp.137-140. ISSN 1870-7459.
We report the sighting of the Red-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta canadensis) in September 2007 and January-February 2012. These records correspond to two localities in the north of the Mexican state of Chihuahua, both separated by 85 km. Such localities were Sierra La Amargosa, municipality of Guadalupe, and El Chamizal Park, Ciudad Juárez. The species had only been recorded in the states of Baja California, Nuevo Leon, Sinaloa, and Jalisco, hence the importance of this record to understand its distribution in northern Mexico.
