Abstract
PLASENCIA-VAZQUEZ, Alexis Herminio and ESCALONA-SEGURA, Griselda. New record of the White-fronted Amazon (Amazona albifrons) on Cozumel Island, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.1, pp.43-46. ISSN 1870-7459.
We reported, for the first time in the scientific literature, the presence of the White-fronted Parrot (Amazona albifrons) as an introduced species in the urban areas of Cozumel Island, Quintana Roo, during fieldwork carried out in April 2011. Its presence in the island urban areas only, its capacity to successfully survive in urban areas, the abundance of fruit trees, and its use as pet by islanders suggest that the recorded individuals are the result of escapes or releases by their owners. It is likely that there are favourable conditions for the establishment of a population in the town of San Miguel de Cozumel that must be monitored in the future.
