Resumen

NAVARRO HERNANDEZ, Pamela et al. Costal osteosynthesis using the StraCos® System: initial experience in two. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.4, pp.316-321.  Epub 02-Oct-2020. ISSN 1870-7203.

Thoracic trauma is usually associated with rib fractures. Mechanism of trauma can be blunt or penetrating. The main cause of thoracic trauma is motor-vehicle accidents. In recent years, surgical treatment has shown important advantages over conservative management. The aim of this study was to know the experience of the rib fixation with StraCos® system in two hospitals of the Mexico City Health Services. Seven patients were identified, 6 men (87.7) and only one woman (14.2). Indication for osteosynthesis was the presence of one or more fractures and the displacement of a fracture. The most frequently observed postoperative complication was pain in 85.7%. The in-hospital length of stay was 11.43 days in average, only one patient required Intensive Care Unit and mechanical ventilation. The fixation of the rib fractures is an acceptable method of treatment over the nonoperative management. However, and considering our environment, it requires a standardization for their use and so, to be able to verify the effectiveness of this system.
