Abstract

GONZALEZ DE LA MORA, Juan José et al. Ganglioneuroma as a differential diagnosis of retroperitoneal tumor: case report. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.3, pp.246-248. ISSN 1870-7203.

The retroperitoneal presence of a tumour represents a wide range of pathologies as differential diagnosis. Its late detection is associated to compressive symptoms once it has reached a major size. They commonly grow among vascular structures, conferring technical difficulties during its surgical approach for resection. Herein the case of a 57 years-old woman with compressive symptoms due to a retroperitoneal tumuor detected by tomography, located under the right kidney and adjacent to the inferior cava vein. She underwent total resection of the tumour with successful preservation of nearby structures, with final pathology report of completely resected ganglioneuroma and less than 1% of cell proliferation. Ganglioneuromas are uncommon well differentiated benign tumours localized in posterior mediastinum and retroperitoneum on most cases, derived from sympathetic ganglionic cells, representing only 1.6% of retroperitoneal tumours.
