Introduction:
Halitosis is the unpleasant odor coming from the mouth, nose, respiratory tract or digestive tract. From the social point of view generates social rejection, low self-esteem and depression. Persistent halitosis in 10 to 15% of cases is caused by diseases or extraoral problems, being a diagnostic challenge.
Clinical case:
A 13-year-old boy with persistent halitosis of six months, classified in grade V with organoleptic test, in which esophagitis, gastritis and gastroparesis associated with Helicobacter pylori were demonstrated by panendoscopy and gastric gammagraphy; managed with prokinetics and eradication of Helicobacter pylori, with reduction of halitosis of grade V to I and achieving restitution to its usual social environment.
Conclusion:
Halitosis of extraoral origin is a diagnostic challenge that requires a multidisciplinary approach for diagnosis.
