In a span of fifteen years, the city of Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz has modified its living conditions with the arrival of students, teachers and administrators of the local university. The university population demand services and contribute towards energizing the local economy. Through field research, information is collected from People that have been witness to the changes in the city. Documentary sources are used to understand the impact upon the arrival of a public university in Miahuatlán. Also, there is a need to consider the role the universities play as trainers of human capital and drivers of local economies in the community where they settle. What importance does policy taking has to promote activities that trigger local economic development?
