CORTE CRUZ, Pablo Sigfrido  e  CARRILLO HUERTA, Mario Miguel. Impacts of the Procampo Program in the production of corn and beans in México, 2000-2010. EconoQuantum [online]. 2018, vol.15, n.2, pp.95-112. ISSN 2007-9869.  https://doi.org/10.18381/eq.v15i2.7130.

The Program for the Direct Support to the Agricultural Sector (Procampo), which started in México in 1993, has had as its main objective to promote agricultural production, and in so doing, ameliorate the adverse conditions that some producers could face as a result of the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The objective of the present study is to review the impact of this program on rural Mexican producers of corn, compared with bean growers, under the hypothesis that beneficiaries have improved their production, as compared to those who had not received support from the Program by the year 2010, and that such an improvement differs among beneficiaries, depending upon the product they produce: corn or beans. Using an econometric model proposed by J. Heckman, applied to information from the National Survey of Rural Homes of México of El Colegio de México, it can be shown that there are significant differences between the beneficiary households and the non-beneficiaries, in favor of the former. In addition, the results show that advantages among beneficiaries who produce corn are larger than among those who produce beans.
