Resumen

VARGAS CHANES, Delfino  y  GONZALEZ NUNEZ, José Carlos. Los determinantes de la satisfacción con la democracia, desde el enfoque de un modelo multinivel. EconoQuantum [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.2, pp.55-75. ISSN 2007-9869.

In this article, we propose a multilevel model to explain satisfaction with democracy, which incorporates two levels of analysis at both: the individual- and at country-level. For this purpose, we chose a representative survey of 19,232 individuals from 17 major economies in Latin America. The multilevel model explains satisfaction with democracy, using macro-level variables (country-level) as the average income of individuals, and the micro-level (individual-level) by perceptions that each person has their welfare, situation of the economy, among other variables. Second, we obtained a ranking of countries in terms of satisfaction with democracy using the proposed model. As a result, it appears that the most important variables at the individual level are life satisfaction, assessment of the economy, respect for rights and freedoms, education, ideological (left - right) trend and gender perception. The most significant macro variable is the real per capita domestic product in terms of purchasing power. The ranking suggests that Bolivia, Venezuela and Uruguay are the countries that obtained the highest scores in satisfaction with democracy, and thus the rest of the countries are ordered.

Palabras llave : Democracia; gobernanza; modelo multinivel; análisis factorial confirmatorio.
