Abstract
CERMENO, Rodolfo and LLAMOSAS, Irving. Convergencia del PIB per cápita de 6 países emergentes con Estados Unidos: un análisis de cointegración. EconoQuantum [online]. 2007, vol.4, n.1, pp.59-84. ISSN 2007-9869.
In this study we attempt to determine if there is convergence, and if this is absolute or conditional, between the real per cápita GDP of 6 countries. We carry out a cointegration approach, similar to that in Bernard and Durlauf. The results are non conclusive for the case of Canada-U.S., while they support non-convergence for most of the others cases considered. In order to evaluate the robustness of our convergence tests to possible structural breaks, we implemented the Gregory and Hansen's approach of cointegration under structural change. In most cases, we do not find evidence supporting convergence under structural change, which suggests that the gaps of per cápita GDP of the countries considered in this study relative to the U.S. are consistent with non-convergence.
