Resumen

DOMINGUEZ AGUILAR, Mauricio. The Spatial Dimensions of Residential Segregation in the City of Merida at the Beginning of The XXI Century. Península [online]. 2017, vol.12, n.1, pp.147-188. ISSN 1870-5766.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pnsla.2017.01.007.

Although the residential segregation notion has an intrinsic spatial character, there is very often theoretical and ethodological discrepancies regarding the analysis of their spatial dimensions. In this paper we discuss the spatial dimensions of contemporary residential segregation inthe city of Mérida from two approaches. In the first one (quantitative), we analyze the results of key segregation indexes calculated to a group of representative variables of the four basic theoretical approaches to residential segregation. In the second approach, and through the development of a cartographic model, we analyze the spatial patterns of the city's residential segregation. The results obtained from both approaches provide new evidence to challenge popular beliefs about the residential segregation of Mérida.
