Resumen

TERRAZAS Y BASANATE, Marcela. Mexico's northern borders in the face of the north american advance. 1700-1846. Península [online]. 2008, vol.3, n.2, pp.149-162. ISSN 1870-5766.

The article studies the singularities of the border region between Mexico and the United States throughout the first half of the nineteenth century. Broadly speaking it outlines the different border regions of northern Mexico, emphasizing Northern California. It also examines this border in relation with the American expansion and reviews and distinguishes between the "Anglo", Hispanic and Mexican advance, by reflecting on their differing rhythms and diverse nature. It analyzes as well the similarities and differences these areas had with the Mexican center in order to understand the characteristics of peripheral regions.

Palabras llave : Mexico; United States; border; Northern California; eighteenth and nineteenth century.
