Using an approach based on the conflictive history of jurisdictional boundaries between the states of Campeche and Tabasco, immersed in the region of Ríos del Usumacinta, we will present a number of key elements for discussing how the colonization projects and the disputes for economic hegemony interwove with the larger national undertaking in nineteenth-century Mexico, namely the integration of its territory and subsequent "mexicanization".
