This article deals with the role of the Inter-American Public Defender. It relates the inception and functioning of this institution to the evolution of the role of the victim in the judicial procedure before the Court. From a descriptive perspective, it establishes the procedure to appoint an Inter-American Public Defender, as well as the particularities of its regulation. Analytically, it highlights the most relevant procedural aspects of this figure, taking into consideration the practice of more than a dozen years. Finally, very briefly, the article determines the challenges that this institution faces in the near future.
