Abstract

RUIZ MIGUEL, Carlos  and  BLANCO SOUTO, Yolanda. An Overview of MINURSO: Background, Developments and Perspectives. Anu. Mex. Der. Inter [online]. 2020, vol.20, pp.351-394.  Epub Mar 19, 2021. ISSN 1870-4654.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iij.24487872e.2020.20.14479.

The United Nations Mission for Western Sahara (MINURSO) was the most ambitious peacekeeping operation at the time of its creation in 1990. This paper explores the precedents that inspired this Mission, and then examines its normative frame, its missions and structure. Then, the paper analyses the Mission from the language, nationality and gender perspectives. Finally, we dare to judge the successes and failures experienced as well as the advisable changes in its mandate.

Keywords : MINURSO; Western Sahara; UN; OAU; Referendum; Human Rights; Economic Activities.
