LAMAS OVANDO, Ana Paula. Delimitation and Delineation of the Outer Margin of the Continental Shelf Beyond 200 M. Two Different Processes. Anu. Mex. Der. Inter [online]. 2018, vol.18, pp.65-104. Epub 27-Mar-2020. ISSN 1870-4654. https://doi.org/10.22201/iij.24487872e.2018.18.12097.
The UNCLOS sets the foundations on which coastal States can delineate and delimitate the continental shelf beyond 200 M. Coastal States shall establish its continental margins based on the recommendations issued by the CLCS; those margins will be final and binding. However, when analyzing the extent of the margins, continental shelf overlaps can be found between States with opposite or adjacent coasts; in such cases, States should delimit. It can be observed in this overlaps the importance and independence of both processes’ and the prevalence of the process of delimitation over the delineation of the outer margin of the continental shelf.
