Resumen

GOMEZ-ABARCA, Carlos de Jesús. Social Protest and Demobilization in Chiapas (2018-2021) in the context of the Fourth Transformation and the Covid-19 Contingency. Rev. pueblos front. digit. [online]. 2024, vol.19, e689.  Epub 08-Mar-2024. ISSN 1870-4115.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cimsur.18704115e.2024.v19.689.

This paper aims to explore the dynamics and patterns of social protest in the state of Chiapas between 2018 and 2021, as well as the processes which influence social demobilization. Two significant events stand out among these factors: the victory of Morena on the elections front, and the health contingency brought about by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. To understand these processes, the author studied the link between electoral processes and social mobilization and demobilization, taking the analysis of a series of protests as an empirical reference. A wave of protests that occurred between 2018 and 2019 stands out among the results of the previous analysis, allowing us to put into perspective both the demobilizing effects of Morena´s victory and those of the pandemic, at the same time the emergence of new social actors was observed.
