Resumen
FRAGOSO LUGO, Perla O.. Beyond the Caribbean Paradise: Social Discontent and Violence in the Lives of Young People in Cancun. Rev. pueblos front. digit. [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.22, pp.68-99. ISSN 1870-4115. https://doi.org/10.22201/cimsur.18704115e.2016.22.270.
This article analyzes the social relations constructed in the young tourist city of Cancun, Quintana Roo State, specifically related to social discontent and the various forms of violence experienced by its young inhabitants. Through over 60 testimonies by male and female youth, this article specifically addresses how the uncertain, transitory and ambiguous qualities typical of flexible capitalism and the tourist industry provoke social discontent associated with two different modalities of violence: both structural and symbolic. These forms of violence favor the configuration of "perforated subjectivities" in youth (Saraví and Makowski, 2011), in which the void of the "social realm" and its institutional codes likewise favors the production and reproduction of conflicts which are resolved through the exercise of direct and covert forms of violence.
