Resumen
CAMPOS-DELGADO, Amalia E.. "Hope's treasures": Young People's Life Projects South of the Bordes - Tijuana, Mexico and Tecun Uman, Guatemala. Rev. pueblos front. digit. [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.22, pp.22-42. ISSN 1870-4115. https://doi.org/10.22201/cimsur.18704115e.2016.22.268.
Dual notions of mobility and immobility permeate the border contexts. The permissiveness and selectivity of migratory transit beyond the national territory are intrinsic elements in the everyday sphere of those living "south" of the border. Using a qualitative methodology, the research aimed to identify the way in which young people from two towns with different border control infrastructures (Tijuana, Mexico, and Tecun Uman, Guatemala) experience their present and imagine their future, based on the ongoing contact with a barrier charged with symbols of difference and restriction. Through their narratives, it is possible to analyze how they embarked on a struggle for urban and youth demands in search of self-empowerment and making use of the best of "both worlds", always with the intention to return to their homeland.
