This paper examines exhaustively the literature on the human body as a relatively recent field of studies in social and human sciences. It frames this cognitive field, applying a trans- as well as inter-disciplinary approach. It proposes a number of theoretical and methodological pathways to investigate body as an essential and constituent dimension of cultural and social practices.
