Objective: to characterize farming families’ dietary pattern and determine the the influence of some socioeconomic factors on the origin and consumption of food in the Totonacapan Poblano, Mexico. Methodology: using the 24-hour recall technique a survey about their diet was applied to 270 families and the socioeconomic information was documented. Results: 159 foods were registered; of them 57.6% comes from external sources, including fats, dairy products, eggs, bread, wheat pasta, salt, and foods and beverages high in sugar. A high proportion of maize, some beans and chilies, green leaves “quelites”, fruits, chicken, and pork meat come mainly from the own, local, and regional production. Value: data on the current peasant diet and its implications for agrodiversity and health are provided. Conclusions: peasant diet components are being detached from self-consumption production, which is a consequence of the migration associated with low income.
