Objective: to identify patterns of change in the regions of the state and provide elements for a new characterization of small local producers. Methodology: a quantitative study was carried out using longitudinal databases to analyze the incursion of Oaxaca's agricultural production in foreign markets. Factor analysis was used to generate agricultural activity indices and network analysis to observe the trajectories of agricultural products. Results: the data show that the agricultural profile of some municipalities and their producers has been changing in the last two decades. These are changes marked by the increase in its activity and by the consolidation of specific agro-products in local and foreign markets. Limitations: only secondary data were used. Value: the great number of data analyzed makes the evidence robust. Conclusions: the results raise the need to update the traditional characterization of small production in terms of its lack of access to markets.
