Resumen

FLORES-MARQUEZ, Dorismilda; MORALES CARBAJAL, José Antonio  y  HERNANDEZ PEREZ, Christian Saúl. Mapping Civil Society Organizations and Activist Groups in Guanajuato, Mexico. Región y sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.33, e1413.  Epub 04-Jun-2021. ISSN 2448-4849.  https://doi.org/10.22198/rys2021/33/1413.

Objective: to describe the configuration of civil society in Guanajuato, Mexico, through the recognition of political, economic, and cultural conditions of the local context, the presence of civil society organizations that work on specific problematics, and the links between them. Methodology: a two-phase documentary research that includes the contextualization of Guanajuato as a sociocultural region and a mapping of civil society organizations and activist collectives. Results: identification of more than 600 organizations, most of them dedicated to social assistance, but there are also emergent collectives working on gender, environment, and human rights. These findings were connected with the political, economic, and cultural conditions of the local context. Limitations: Even when this study is revealing, it does not allow identifying links among the organizations and other public and private actors. Value: the study contributes to the production of contextualized knowledge to recognize local particularities in order to understand the local-global complexities. Conclusions: the study of civil society and activism in local contexts allows understanding the continuities and ruptures of the social dynamics and the local-global connections.
