Abstract
VELASCO ORTIZ, Laura and HERNANDEZ CAMPOS, Carlos. An Approach to Exploitation Social Relation in Two Global Agro-export Enclaves in Mexican Northwest. Región y sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.33, e1411. Epub June 04, 2021. ISSN 2448-4849. https://doi.org/10.22198/rys2021/33/1411.
Objective: to analyze the agro-export enclave social basis through the study of the social relations of production in two agro-export regions of Baja California Sur, where global and regional capitals converge with the transfer of workers in order to sustain the production process. Methodology: consists of two representative surveys conducted in agricultural day-laborers’ camps in two regions of Baja California Sur: Vizcaíno Valley and Santo Domingo Valley between 2014 and 2015. Data analysis was made through descriptive statistics and a logistic regression model. Results: social relations of production go beyond the workplace, with forms of precarious exploitation, and include the control of mobility and residence. Limitations: the generalization scope due to the very specific connections that converge in the regions of study. Value: its contribution to the discussion on the scarce regional connections of global capitals and their effect on the production and reproduction of inequalities at the global and regional level. Conclusions: the relations of exploitation in global regions, such as this case of study, are based on residence control and work intensification, with effects on life expectancy reduction and endanger workers’ and their families social reproduction.
