Resumen

LOZANO GONZALEZ, Elí Orlando. Political culture of students from intercultural universities in Mexico. Región y sociedad [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.73, 0008. ISSN 2448-4849.  https://doi.org/10.22198/rys.2018.73.a908.

This article analyzes the political culture of students from intercultural universities located in three Mexican regions: central, southeastern and Gulf. Political culture is understood as an individual’s subjective predispositions in the face of the political system, its institutions, actors and processes. One of its characteristics is that it is constructed on the basis of the social and political context in which people are immersed. The questionnaire, applied to 228 students from the three institutions, includes political information they have, their perception and level of trust in authority figures, as well as their attitudes towards political parties, voting and elections. Students’ lack of trust in the authorities, their distancing from political parties, and their scarce political information, all of them characteristics of a political culture distant from the democratic ideal, are evident.

Palabras llave : political culture; democracy; intercultural universities; university students-social behavior; voter turnout.
